Restorative Justice Community Forum in Tallahassee, FL

The forum featured Guest Speaker Chief of Public Safety Michael Butler from Longmont, Colorado. Panel members included Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil; the Rev. Lee Johnson, Loved by Jesus Church; Linda Nelson, President, Big Bend Crime Stoppers; and Interim Chief of Police Steve Outlaw. Over 150 people attended the panel discussion, including community members, city and county commissioners, State Attorney Jack Campbell, and Mayor Dailey.

Community Connections Program
Located at Palmer Munroe Teen Center in Tallahassee, FL, the Community Connections Program is a restorative program that serves youth between the ages of 13 and 17, most of whom are referred as a result of involvement with the legal system or difficulty in school or at home. Typically, teens come to us as a diversion option to court, as part of their probation, or as a community referral. The program begins with a restorative conference, followed by 14 weeks of classes on empathic, or Nonviolent Communication, skills. For every youth in the cycle, there is also a community volunteer.

River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding
Located in Gainesville, FL, RPCP offers a comprehensive community model that takes the approach of addressing conflict and violence with a continuum of prevention, intervention, and restorative strategies involving youth and adult populations, including those healing from the otherwise lasting impact of trauma.

LCJP is an ally for Florida (see videos above regarding Chief Mike Bulter's visit to Tallahassee in August 2019. Continued collaboration is underway.
LCJP is a restorative justice non-profit organization in Longmont, Colorado that has been in existence for 25 years. In the community of Longmont, LCJP partners with their Police Department, area schools and the Municipal Court. They provide an alternative setting where people taking responsibility for crime and those they have harmed through crime meet in a conference to talk about what happened, how people have been affected, and what can be done to repair harm.
